Appeals are probably one of the most technical aspects of the legal profession. Just as a criminal case is different from a civil case, an appeal is different from a trial. If you have been convicted and believe that the conviction was in error, an appeal may be the right step for you. The only way to know for sure is to talk to an attorney about your case.
An appeal is not a new trial, it’s not a rehearing of the evidence. An appeal is a claim that there were legal mistakes made. It is a legal argument, not an argument of the facts. Because of the technical nature of an appeal, an attorney is essential in ensuring that everything is done properly. Failure to do things properly can irreparably harm your case and eliminate any chance of a resolution in your favor.
Please keep in mind that there is a limited time to appeal. You need to contact an attorney as soon as possible to avoid delays and complications with your case.
